Third Update on the Effects of and Response to the Tohoku Kanto Earthquake

Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation (TOKYO:8036, Hitachi High-Tech) expresses our deepest sympathies to those affected by the earthquake that struck the Tohoku region on March 11th.

Following the update issued on March 22, Hitachi High-Tech is able to report that power, gas, water, and other utilities have been restored at our Naka Division and at Hitachi High-Tech Manufacturing & Service Corporation (both in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture). In light of this development, limited service and production of the following products is slated to resume on the following dates:

  • Service and production of consumable parts for analytical instruments and medical devices from March 25
  • Production of semiconductor inspection and measurement equipment, and science & medical-related equipment from March 29

While limited production at some facilities will resume, Hitachi High-Tech is considering relocating production at facilities that have suffered severe damage so that they can return to operation. Depending on the product, normal operations have yet to resume due to the inability to procure parts and other limitations in the supply chain.

With respect to our employees, Hitachi High-Tech has confirmed that all Group employees are safe, and is continuing to confirm the safety of their families.

Hitachi High-Tech is currently estimating the extent of losses and the impact the earthquake will have on the company’s performance. The impact, however, is expected to be large and Hitachi High-Tech will disclose such information as quickly as possible.
